j.mcgarry@gsaanh.com
Mr. McGarry comes to us from Massachusetts, where he studied English and Education at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He recently finished a year as a teaching intern at Amherst Regional Middle School, and is excited to be working with high schoolers at GSAA. When he is not in the classroom, Mr. McGarry enjoys hiking, playing board games, and finding clips of Star Trek that he can use to teach New Criticism. His tastes in literature range from Shakespeare to Superman, and he is excited to integrate visual, musical, and dramatic media into his English curriculum.
Mr. McGarry believes that close reading and organized writing are essential tools for critical thinking, and is looking forward to working with his students to develop the tools they need to critically examine all kinds of media, from novels and plays to television and comics.
