GSAA is proud to present internationally known entertainer Jon Abrams. This one man show focuses on music of the last sixty years from artists such as The Beatles, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Steely Dan, Carole King, Elton John, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, John Mayer, Glen Campbell, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, the Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, Jackson Brown, Michael Jackson, and James Taylor.
A native of Lowell, MA, Mr. Abrams now makes his home in Manhattan where he has joined the list of well known New York cabaret song stylists such as Bobby Short and Michael Feinstein. He graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA and received his collegiate degree in both Composition and Music Education from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. While a student at Lawrence, Mr. Abrams sang in the school's chorus, and a cappella group, and performed in the school musicals under the direction of GSAA Music Director, Peter Hazzard. As a senior he co-music directed a children’s musical with Mr. Hazzard throughout New England. In the last decade Mr. Abrams has become well known for both his virtuosity at the keyboard and his vocal renderings. His appearances have taken him from Las Vegas to New York as well as the Caribbean and Europe.
A specialist in the music of Billy Joel, Mr. Abrams fronts a Billy Joel tribute band known as The Strangers. It was his work with that band that earned him an audition for Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp’s Broadway musical Movin’ Out in the summer of 2008. He performed the starring role of the Piano Man in the 2008-2009 national tour of that show, becoming one of only eight performers authorized by Billy Joel for the part.
In addition to his solo work in New York, Mr. Abrams is attached to two Broadway musicals as substitute music director (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Book of Mormon.) He also works as a record producer at Cove City Sound Studios owned and operated by former Billy Joel saxophonist Richie Cannata. His current production client is Troy Ramey of NBC-TV’s The Voice.
